Ethics for the Practicing Civil Engineer
One day course, 0.8 CEUs

  Overview

The very positive public perception of engineers, particularly licensed professional engineers, can be attributed largely to the high ethical standards set by engineers within their own profession. The growing trend of required continuing education, often including requirements for education in engineering ethics, is one indication of the position taken by the profession.

Haestad Methods is offering a comprehensive one-day ethics course designed for civil engineers and engineering managers, whether in private practice or employed in industry or governmental agencies. This training is designed to satisfy the ethic component for states that require continuing education credits for professional license renewal, and provides examples of real-world case studies which apply ethics to engineering decision making processes.

The material is presented using an ideal mix of lecture and group discussions designed to expose attendees to a broad range of concepts dealing with professional ethics and the legal responsibilities of the professional engineer. The course demonstrates a method of identification and classification of ethical conflicts that can arise in the practice of engineering and develops a methodical approach to the analysis and resolution of such ethical conflicts.

Numerous real-world case studies are presented to highlight the principles and methods presented. Design engineers, project managers, reviewers, and engineering managers will find the course to be relevant to issues that arise in their routine professional duties.
